Arnhem 1944 is the illustrated and detailed story of the last German victory against the Allies. Written by Janusz Piekalkiewicz it is presented as a blow-by-blow account in the chronological sequence of events. Hitherto unpublished photographs together with maps, diaries and detailed situation reports from both sides containing information which has not been disclosed before, combine to give a unique insight into the anatomy of an operation which lasted from the afternoon of 17 September until dawn on 26 September 1944.

Code-named 'Market Garden' this was the biggest and most daring airborne operation of World War II; its principal objective was the strategically important bridge at Arnhem, in German-occupied Holland. Because Allied Intelligence was misinformed as to the strength and deployment of the Wehrmacht the operation failed, and after ten days of hard fighting during which they suffered heavy losses the Allies were compelled to retreat in an operation which (ironically) was code-named 'Operation Berlin'.
