Few sports cars have a more emotive appeal than the products of M.G. For more than 40 years the initials M.G. have conjured up the same image for everyone: a car of outstanding performance combined with tasteful and distinctive styling; in fact, everything a sports car should be. From relatively mundane beginnings with special-bodied Builnose Morris cars, the marque rose to great heights in road and track racing in the early 1930s, winning such epics as the Tourist Trophy. Exotic, beautifully streamlined M.G. cars also took a host of international speed records between 1930 and 1960.

However, from the late 1930s to the mid- 1950s the firm concentrated on producing traditional sports cars in ever-increasing numbers, pioneering a massive export market in the United States. This led to such enduring classics as the TC, TD and TF beloved by discerning enthusiasts and collectors everywhere. From 1955 when the MGA was introduced, to be succeeded by the popular MGB in 1962, the M.G. works at Abingdon produced so many cars that it became the biggest sports car factory in the world.
Chris Harvey, a renowned authority on the marque, describes the history of M.G. from the very beginnings to the current M.G. Metro saloon. As with the previous books in this highly successful series, there are more than 60 specially commissioned full-colour photographs of historic cars, together with contemporary photos, action pictures, interiors and engines, plus detailed specification panels of the leading types. No one looking through the pages of this beautifully produced book could fail to come under the spell of the M.G. magic.
