Climate, erosion, surface types, water availability, inaccessibility - and what man can do to combat them. The deserts of the world vary considerably and a wide range of examples is given; particular attention is paid to the deserts of the Old World, notably the Middle East, India and Africa, since this is where the authors have one their main field work.
The book is designed for students in schools, colleges and universities beginning their advanced study of Geography and will also be useful as background reading for anyone involved in development projects or industry in and environments, or in Middle Eastern area studies.
