"Only This" is the memoir of Lieutenant James Pedley of the 4th Canadian Infantry Battalion. Pedley fought in France in 1917-18, was wounded, and awarded the Military Cross. His memoir is unique for its exceptional detail, and his, not always friendly, observations of the men he served with. The description of the positions at the Quarry, and of the deadly trenches in front of Avion have no equal. The fluid style of his writing and his frank-views on the war and people in general make "Only This'' a Great War classic. It was originally published in 1927.
