Battle of Arnhem, Extended Omnibus Edition, is  a voluminous comic book with a solid hardcover and 160 full colour pages containing:

  • the three original volumes by comic artist Hennie Vaessen : the Bridge, Hartenstein Hotel and Eagle and Pegasus
  • 21 extra pages on events in the Betuwe, prequel to Arnhem Battle, the Nijmegen crossing and the liberation.

In June 1944 the Allies invaded Normandy and advanced in a broad front as far as Antwerp. The rapid advance came to a halt when supplies became overstretched and it faced newly regrouped German lines. British Field Marshal Montgomery devised a plan to invade Germany north of these lines: Operation Market Garden. The plan consists of two parts:

  1. Operation Market: airborne troops capturing the river crossings along the route
  2. Operation Garden: ground troops advancing northwards.

The First British Airborne Division is ordered to take the bridges at Arnhem. It then has to hold the bridges for two days until the tanks of the XXX Corps (30th Corps) arrive heading north….

Hennie Vaessen received the  2019 Prodesse Conamur Prize .  This is awarded yearly for the best contributer to Arnhem storytelling.
