'The Dutch Overseas: architectural survey of the mutual heritage of four centuries in three continents' by Professor C.L.  Temminck Groll in co-operation with W. van Alphen is a richly illustrated, well-documented, broad historic review that selects many buildings and urban structures in Asia, America and Africa. These are placed against the dual background of their ties with the Netherlands and with the region where they are located. Certain countries have successfully requested that some of these structures or groups of buildings be included on the unesco World Heritage List.

Much attention has been paid to the position occupied by the described objects in modern society. This painting of the Brievengat ('Brifad') estate house by the Curacaoan autodidact Okalia is a fine example of this! This book, which also contains contributions by experts specialising in a single area, is part of the Netherlands Department for Conservation series entitled 'Cultuurhistorische Studies'.
