The German army used many different types of motorcycle during World War Two. On all fronts, they used both home-built and captured machines which were operated mainly by motorcycle companies that formed a small part of the German division. To date, very little has been published on motorcycles in wartime, so this book helps to fill the gap; at least from the German army's contribution to motorcycle history and its service during war.

The author is a well known collector and vehicle preservationist who has a large collection of military vehicles and other militaria. Many of the vehicles have starred in numerous film and television productions via the author's 'TLO Film Services' company, and some will also be well known to readers from their appearances at the various military vehicle rallies.

In this book Tony Oliver provides a large cross-section of over 100 photographs taken from his vast collection, to give a photographic presentation of the solo motorcycles, motorcycle combinations and the Kettenkrads that were in service with the Wehrmacht just prior to, and during the Second World War.

Motorcycles are shown from the light solo machines through to the large 750 and 800cc combinations with their shaft-driven sidecars, machine-guns and modifications to the many special purpose roles they performed. Illustrations are to a certain degree from the official Wehrmacht handbook and many 'action' shots taken by the German combat photographers on all fronts that the Germans fought.

The latter half of the book is given over to the unusual Kettenkrad, a type of small, tracked prime-mover, with the front forks and wheel of a motorcycle which gave it its very distinctive appearance. Rare illustrations give detailed pictorial information for military enthusiasts and modellers of the Kettenkrad and its layout.
