International Classic Cars

All motoring enthusiasts look bak with nostalgia to the early years of motoring. Before the post-War years brought greater standardization, the motor car had a crafted elegance and distinctive personality that have since been lost. It is not for nothing that old cars have care and affection lavished on them - they were made as if such treatment was expected.

International Classic Cars is a magnificently illustrated record of these glamorous automobiles from the earliest days to the end of the thirties. The first part of the book traces the history of the car from the experimental steam-driven and electric-powered vehicles of the nineteenth century to the end of the second decade of this century when the principles of mass production had become established. The second part of the book is devoted to a marque-by-marque account of the great cars that graced the roads of Europe and America in the inter-War years. All the great names like Dugatti, Duesenberg and Rolls-Royce are included, as well as less well-known classics from makes such as Horch. Du Pont, Franklin, and Wills Sainte Claire. Complementing the many superb photographs are brief histories of the makes concerned.
